Experimenting with paper negatives in my 2.25"x3.25" camera now that I have film holders instead of a film pack adapter.
Camera is an unknown brand (has Graflok back)
Lens is Rodenstock Trinar Anastigmat 1:4.5 f=10,5cm in an old Compur shutter.
Paper is Adorama branded VC RC 5×7 Pearl finish.
Cut manually to the 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 size.
Using light meter, this sheet was exposed at ISO 25 (26s. @ f9)
The paper neg is slightly underexposed (a little too light)
Developed in Ilford Multigrade Paper Developer 1:14 for 1 min.
Adorama Indicator Stop Bath for 9 sec.
Kodafix fixer 1:7 for 2 min.
Negative scanned on my multifunction printer (HP 4435) using OEM software to rotate, mirror, and invert grayscale. No curves or other modifications have been made.

In conclusion, I think I will continue experimenting, using ISO 20 as a baseline. I am impressed at the quality of detail available from a paper negative.

I have started to help friends with their computer problems and noticed that you can buy OEM software quite cheaply. Is it legal for me to buy OEM software if I am helping to repair my friends pc. Such as NIS 2009 ( http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150180 )

You can legally buy OEM software as long as you follow the particular guideline specified by the manufacturer.

For example, in order to buy an OEM copy of Microsoft Windows, you also need to buy a qualified piece of hardware on the same order. Such a piece of hardware could include things such as a motherboard or a processor. In fact, even an adapter plug to turn one molex connector into two connectors is a qualifying piece of hardware! For a while, NewEgg.com used to sell Windows XP OEM where you also had to purchase the molex y-connector for $ 5… and then they gave you a $ 5 rebate. You could choke a horse with all the free molex y-connectors I have from ordering OEM copies of Windows XP!!

Most of the time, no one will give you a hard time about purchasing OEM equipment or software. However, be aware that buying OEM does have certain limitations (lack of warranty, lack of support, or lack of peripherals) over the retail-boxed alternative. OEM software will often come packaged with very little in the way of manuals or instructions… often, you will receive just the installation CD/DVD with a thin “getting started” pamphlet. On the link you sent for the Norton, they show the whole box… but that may not be what you get with the OEM copy; you’ll probably receive much less.

One other thing to note about the Norton product you are looking at… the RETAIL version is actually licensed for up to 3 computers while the OEM is licensed for 1 computer. If your friend has multiple computers, or if you and he want to split the cost, you actually get more “bang for your buck” by purchasing the full version since you can install it more than once. If your friend, or your friend and his family, have two or three computers, they could buy one retail copy and install it on all their computers.
